Bucket Budget · Last updated July 27, 2026
Bucket Budget is a personal budgeting app. It stores the budget you type into it so the same numbers appear on all of your devices. It does not connect to your bank, it carries no advertising or analytics, and nothing in it is sold or shared.
What is stored
Your account
Signing in is handled by Clerk, an authentication provider. Clerk holds your email address and sign-in credentials. Bucket Budget itself keeps only the account identifier Clerk issues, plus your first name (used to address you in the app), your time zone, and your currency.
Your budget
Everything you enter in the app: your buckets and their names, the amount you budget to each one, your pay cycles and paycheck amounts, every transaction you log (amount, date, description, and whether it was money in or out), money you move between buckets, and any recurring charges you set up.
What is not stored
- No bank or card connections. Bucket Budget has no link to any financial institution. Every amount in it is one you typed in yourself. It never sees an account number, a card number, or a banking credential.
- No receipt images. Scanning a receipt reads the text using Apple’s on-device Vision framework. The photo is used to fill in the amount and description, then discarded. It is never uploaded and never saved.
- No biometric data. If you turn on Face ID, iOS performs the check and reports only success or failure. The app never receives your biometrics.
- No analytics, tracking, or advertising. There is no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracker in the app. Your activity is not profiled, and nothing is shared with data brokers or ad networks.
- No location, contacts, photo library, or health data.
How it is used
Only to run the app: to show your balances, carry them across paydays, and keep your devices in sync. Your data is not sold, rented, shared with third parties for their own purposes, or used to train anything. There is no marketing email.
Where it lives
Budget data is stored in a Postgres database hosted by Neon, running on servers in the United States. The service that reads and writes it runs on Vercel. Account identity is held by Clerk. All traffic between the app and the server is encrypted with HTTPS.
Those three providers process data solely to operate the app on our behalf. If you use the app from outside the United States, your data is stored there.
What stays on your phone
The app keeps a local copy of your latest dashboard so it opens instantly, a queue of transactions logged while offline that have not yet reached the server, a small snapshot that feeds the Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets, and the words it has learned to associate with each bucket so it can suggest one as you type. All of it is removed when you sign out, delete your account, or delete the app.
Deleting your data
Settings → Delete account erases everything: every bucket, pay cycle, transaction, move, and recurring rule, then your account record, then your sign-in identity at Clerk. It is immediate and cannot be undone, and there is no backup copy kept afterwards.
If you want your history first, Settings → Export as CSV gives you every transaction as a spreadsheet file before you delete anything.
Data is kept for as long as your account exists. There is no separate retention period, because deleting the account deletes the data.
Your rights
You can see all of your data in the app, correct any of it by editing it there, take a copy with the CSV export, and delete all of it from Settings. If you would rather have any of that handled for you, write to elvis.cabreja623@gmail.com.
Children
Bucket Budget is not directed at children under 13, and accounts are not knowingly created for them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. A change that meaningfully affects how your data is handled will be announced in the app before it takes effect.
